This 5-day Marrakech to Merzouga desert tour balances Morocco’s celebrated landmarks with a comfortable private-travel rhythm. Instead of rushing directly to the dunes and back, the itinerary includes meaningful stops in Skoura, the Valley of Roses, Todra Gorge, Rissani and the Draa Valley. The extra time also allows you to experience Merzouga beyond the camel trek and appreciate the culture and landscapes surrounding Erg Chebbi.
Because the journey is private, departure times and stops can be adapted to your interests whenever road conditions and the day’s schedule allow. Accommodation level, room type and desert-camp category can also be selected before confirmation. Families, couples and small groups travel with a private vehicle and receive a written quotation explaining the included transport, stays, meals and planned activities.
Day by day
Leave Marrakech and cross the High Atlas Mountains by the Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Visit the fortified village of Ait Ben Haddou, continue through Ouarzazate and arrive in the palm oasis of Skoura for the night.
Travel through the Valley of Roses and the Dades area before continuing to Todra Gorge, where there is time to walk beneath its dramatic canyon walls. Cross the changing southern landscapes and arrive near the Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga.
Explore the Merzouga region at a relaxed pace. Depending on local conditions and your chosen program, visit Khamlia for Gnawa music, meet communities around the dunes and enjoy the desert scenery. Later, ride a camel across Erg Chebbi near sunset and spend the night in a Sahara camp.
After breakfast, leave Merzouga and pass through Rissani, an important historic market town. Continue across the open landscapes of southern Morocco via Alnif and Nkob, then follow the palm groves of the Draa Valley to Agdz for the night.
Travel from Agdz toward Ouarzazate, with time for scenic stops according to the day’s schedule. Cross the High Atlas Mountains again and return to Marrakech, where the tour finishes at your accommodation.
